McCullough Construction Wins 2 Historic Preservation Awards!

McCullough Construction was honored to receive 2 Historic Preservation Awards this spring, for restoration/ renovation of both the Mission Apartment Buildings (“Design & Construction” Award) and the Hine North Apartments (State Historic Preservation Officer’s Award).

The Mission Building, located at 1625 14th St NW, delivered 51 new condominiums, as well as retail space, at the site of the previous “Mission Building.” The existing building was completely gutted and restored, while the 3 adjacent historic townhouses underwent façade restoration. Improvements include new wood windows and historic aluminum replacement for the limestone building.

The most interesting and unique aspect of this project is that the new structure is connected to the remaining historic townhouses with a 7 story, cast in place concrete frame, clad with contemporary aluminum windows and a terra cotta rain screen system. The new condos feature very high end modern finishes mixed with historic components of the restored structures.

“Hine North” redevelopment on Capitol Hill delivered (34) apartment units within a 4-story concrete and wood frame structure at the corner of Eastern Market.

The building consists of Basement and Ground Level retail with apartment units starting at the 1st Floor and above. The project is considered to be the North Residential portion of the larger Hine School Redevelopment in Southeast.

Façade features include terracotta clay tile and brick with copper cornices that wrap the perimeter. The building achieved a LEED Silver-level rating.

“What makes McCullough Construction special is that they hold themselves to very high standards in everything that they undertake. They pay very close attention to detail during all phases of a project — and this includes pre-construction planning and post-construction punch-out. Aside from the actual physical construction, the individuals there have the highest level of honesty and integrity. We look forward to working with McCullough on many projects in the future.”

- Chris Donatelli, Donatelli Development

“McCullough Construction, LLC has performed several major renovations for our firm over the past eight years. The majority of these projects included a complete replacement of building mechanical and electrical systems. Their work has been superior, completed within the project schedule and within budget. We would not hesitate to have McCullough Construction work on any future projects and would highly recommend them.”

– Richard S. Cohen, Willco Companies

“McCullough played a key role in transforming a vacant lot into a distinctive Class A Office and Retail project in the heart of historic Annapolis, MD. They successfully addressed the many challenges of the project site and thrived in the urban environment. The City of Annapolis Mayor’s office called several times during the project’s construction to applaud McCullough efforts in minimizing any interference with the public and adjacent businesses. Tom McCullough’s personal involvement from pre-construction through closeout added confidence to the entire project team.”

- Craig Pittinger, Siena Corporation
