2221 14th Street

2221 14th Street is a multi-use building located just outside the trendy DC U Street corridor. The structure consists of one level of below grade parking, one level of ground floor retail, and five levels of luxury apartments above. One of the greatest challenges on this project was the proximity of the WMATA tunnels. The foundation system, which is a combination of spread footings and deep foundations (auger cast piles), will help to avoid any unnecessary pressure on these tunnels.

The lower component of the structure is comprised of reinforced concrete from subgrade, while the 2nd level up to the roof is wood framing. The façade is a contemporary design with metal panels, aluminum windows and face brick/masonry veneer. A vegetative roof system surrounds the roof patio area on the top level.
