Wonderbread

641 S St, NW, Washington DC

McCullough’s renovation of the historic Wonder Bread building included a complex series of internal façade bracing and underpinning of all exterior walls. The trademark factory, also known as White Cross Bakery, was actually comprised of 7 different industrial buildings that were completed at different times between the years of 1913 and 1936.

The existing structure was completely demolished prior to excavation of the new level below grade, while the new multi-use building (100,000 sf) was constructed inside of the entirely preserved façade.

Construction on the historic factory began in March of 2012 and was completed by June of 2013.
